Tenaha City Council votes to give water consultant $90,000 salary

The City of Tenaha has hired a consultant to help get the city back on track with TCEQ water regulations.

 

Mayor Orinthia Johnson says Stacy Cranford began his duties yesterday, and will assist the water department to make sure its in compliance with state and federal law.

 

Mayor Johnson said he felt Cranford will be a good asset for Tenaha and help get the city going in the right direction with water regulation. He said Cranford was given an annual contract for $7,500 a month with benefits.

 

Tenaha's water issue woes included a recent TCEQ fine of $38,000.

 

In other business approved at Monday's meeting, the Tenaha City Council agreed to participate with the City of Center in a recycling program. The city will contribute $500 a year for the next two years, which would eventually place a recycling bin in Tenaha for citizens' use.

 

Approval was also given to Larry Fountain to make the restroom at the Tenaha Municipal Building handicap accessible, in anticipation of the move of city hall to the location. Fountain's bid was $2,100 for the work.

 

Mayor Johnson said a ribbon cutting will be held for Tenaha City Hall at its new location, 238 N. George Bowers Dr., at 4 p.m. on Friday, with cake and punch to be served.
