Center to play hosts to youth baseball tournaments July 5-15, shot in arm to local economy

The Center economy is about to get a much needed  shot in the arm over the next couple of weeks, as the Center Youth Baseball Association is preparing to host a number of state tournaments at the Center Youth Baseball Park.

For the past five years teams from across Texas, along with coaches, parents and fans have converged on the community, which in turn means business for motels, restaurants and retailers.

Center Youth Baseball President Jason Mitchell tells us games will start this Saturday for the 8-year old and under Machine Pitch and Machine Jr. Pitch State Tournaments, as 21 teams will be playing July 5-8; in addition, the Dixie Boys’ 14-year old and Dixie Boys’ Jr., 13-year old event is held with 15 teams starting Saturday.

Then, July 12 thru 15, the 10-year old AAA South and AAA Jr. South Regional Tournament will be played with 17 teams involved; as well as the 12-year old Major Tight Base Tournament; and the District 9-year old and 10-year old Tournament with six teams.

Mitchell said he’s expecting around 1,000 players and coaches the next couple of weeks, and figure in the families, at least 2,500 to be in Center for the tournaments July 5-15.
