Houston area teen dies after Lake Sam Rayburn mishap

A Houston area teenager, who was brought back to life after being underwater at Lake Sam Rayburn for nearly half an hour Saturday afternoon, died later that night in a Houston hospital.

Jasper County authorities say, 13-year-old Zorian Esquel, of Katy, passed away at Texas Children's Hospital, after being revived by paramedics in Jasper. Texas Parks & Wildlife Game Wardens along with the Jasper County Emergency Corps were advised that a boy was missing, and was last seen in the water at Ebenezer Park.

Wadens used a nearby fisherman’s sonar in the boat to locate the teen's body in water about 10 feet deep. Without diving equipment, two wardens dove under and pulled up the boy's body about 26 minutes after he went under.

Paramedics performed CPR and began detecting a heartbeat and pulse enroute to the Jasper hospital. Esquel was flown to Texas Childrens Hospital in Houston, where he later died.
