UPDATE: Fourth of July celebrations, events

If you're making plans for the Fourth of July weekend, here are some of the activities around the area.

 

The Tenaha Businessmen and HOPE Project in Tenaha announce the first Tenaha Independence Day Celebration Family Festival to be held in conjunction with Tenaha Independence Day Celebration Firework Display, Friday, July 4. Events are planned for the downtown Tenaha Square, and include a vendor area; Little Miss/Miss Firecracker pageant at 2:30 p.m.; Veteran Recognition; American as Apple Pie Eating Contest; Patriotic Pet Parade; Red, White and Bounce Park; Yankee Doodle's Den for big kids; and a 50/50 raffle. Events will move to Tiger Stadium at 7 p.m. for the free patriotic and gospel singing, featuring The Calvary Boys at 8 p.m. and fireworks at 9 p.m. Tenaha ISD cheerleaders will have the concession stand. Lawn chair space is available.

 

The Timpson Area Chamber of Commerce is getting ready for the annual Timpson Frontier Days, to be held July 3-6. The Sonny Tippett Memorial Gospel Singing at 7 p.m., Thursday night, will get events underway at First Baptist Church. Pre-sale tickets for the singing are $8, and available from Marilyn Corder, at Timpson Public Library, TNT News, and King’s Nursery in Tenaha. Tickets will be $10 at the door. A carnival will also start Thursday, with all-u-can-ride armbands $15 in advance at the library, or $18 at the carnival. In addition to a full-day of events on Saturday, including a Relay for Life Walk, parade with a bike decorating contest, pet show, car and truck show, domino tournament, ice cream and pea shelling contest, live entertainment, cake auction, and a street dance Saturday featuring, “A Pack of Strays” from Center. New events this year include a laser light show Saturday night, and re-enactments of gun fighting on the streets of Timpson. For more, call 936-254-2966.

 

Huxley Bay Marina is hosting a Fourth of July celebration event, including craft booths, children activities, the band Ashton Hill and a fireworks display that night.

 

The Broaddus Fire Department’s Fourth of July Firework Show will be held at the Broaddus Baseball Complex next Friday. The show starts as the sun goes down with a band and more colors than ever. There will be concession with snacks and drinks.

 

The annual Nacogdoches Freedom Fest is Friday, July 4 in downtown. Festivities kick off at 5 p.m. with fireworks at dark.

 

The City of Jasper’s Independence Day Celebration will be Saturday, July 5 at the Gazebo at Sandy Creek Park. There will be live music, a dunking booth, food vendors and contest. A fireworks show will start at 9:30 p.m. Admission is free.
