Nacogdoches Medical Center says opening of new emergency, imaging center still on for mid December

Officials with Nacogdoches Medical Center say construction progress is just about on schedule for their emergency department and diagnostic imaging center being built in Center. The hospital's Chief Operating Officer, Clay Farrell said other than some weather delays, they're still looking at opening the 24-hour facility in mid December.

The $7-million facility is being constructed at Hwy. 96 south at Loop 500. A "topping out" ceremony was held last week on the 10,000 sq. ft building as the final steel beam was put in place.

Farrell says the Shelby County Community has been very supportive of the project.

He adds the satellite emergency department will provide emergency services for adults and children, and will be staffed by experienced, board-certified physicians with direct access to surgeons and specialty physicians.

He says a lot of work has gone into making the center a reality. Some $4 million in equipment will be installed in the facility.

A job fair was also held in Center recently with around 60 to 80 interested candidates applying for a variety of jobs that will be available at the center.

Farrell said job postings will start in the Fall, with hiring and training to begin soon afterwards.
