The Texas Workforce Commission says the Texas economy continued its trend of job growth in May, as the state's unemployment rate dropped to 5.1 percent, down from 5.2 in April. Shelby County's May unemployment rate was 5.3 percent, down from 5.2 in April, and a full percentage point down from 6.4 in May of last year. San Augustine County's May unemployment was pretty steady at 7.6 percent, down almost two percent from a year ago. In neighboring counties, Sabine County's May unemployment remained double-digit at 10. 9 percent, Nacogdoches County's was 5.1, Angelina County's was 5.2, and Panola County's May unemployment was 4.0 percent.
