The Bass Federation and FLW's Student Angler Federation High School Fishing Open will be holding a "block party" in downtown San Augustine tonight to kick-off the bass fishing tournament on Lake Sam Rayburn.
Last year's tournament brought in teenagers from five states and raised over $20,000 in scholarships. Terry Sympson of Jackson Hill Marina says the event will possibly have a $300,000 economic impact on San Augustine County.
Lots of activities are planned from 6 to 9 tonight in San Augustine, such as music, food, pro fishermen meet-and-greet, fishing skill clinics and games. Sympson says
Saturday's event will be held from 3 to 8 at Broaddus High School for a boat and tackle show and cookout.
High school anglers will take off from Cassels-Boykin Park off Hwy. 147 at 6 a.m. Sunday for the tournament. Weigh-in will be held at the Bill and Emily Shelton Pavilion at 3 and is open to the public.
