Sports Round-up, benefit skeet shoot Saturday in San Augustine 6/20/14

There will be a benefit Skeet Shoot with all the proceeds going to two law enforcement officers recently injured in the line of duty. Trooper Zack Mills and Game Warden Henry Alvardo, are both undergoing long roads to recovery. Trooper Mills is currently recuperating at home and undergoing rehab for his injuries, while Warden Alvarado is currently awaiting another surgery in a Beaumont Hospital. Both of them have a long road to recovery and numerous forthcoming expenses that will not be covered by any compensation other than their own. The Skeet Shoot will be held at the Fairway Farms in San Augustine tomorrow, Saturday, starting at 9:00am. Each gun will cost $60 with a BBQ lunch being provided. There will also be a gun auction held that will include a Beretta (A400) Semi-Auto 12 gauge shotgun, and a Marlin 30/30 rifle with wood grain stock. **Fairway Farms is 5.9 miles from San Augustine on HWY 21 East.** For more information contact: John Welch at the Center Police Department at 936-598-2788, or Sgt. Shelby County is represented well on the 10U Driven baseball tournament team that’s headed to the World Series in Gulf Shores, Alabama next month. The players, coaches and parents wish to thank all the generous donations that were given to these local boys to help fund their upcoming trip. Registration is underway for the annual What-A-Melon Festival 5K Run and one mile run/walk that will be held on Saturday, July 12 on the Center Square. The fun run begins at 7 a.m., with the 5K race set to start at 7:30 a.m. Cost to enter the Fun Run is $15, or $20 on race day; and its $25 for the 5K, or $30 on race day. Shirts are guaranteed for the first 150 applicants. This year, all proceeds from the run are going to the Shelby County Scouts, girls and boys.
