City of Center: Water break repaired, boil water notice issued

As of midnight, the City of Center had completed repairs to the 18-inch primary water main line from the Lake Pinkston water plant that transports the majority of treated water into town.

Because of the break, the entire City of Center water system was placed under a boil water notice last night. City Manager Chad Nehring reported Wednesday morning there was a leak on Hwy. 7 west between Lillian Street and Lakewood, which resulted in no service to customers in that area for most of the day yesterday, in addition to lower than normal water pressure or flow in other areas of town while repairs were done.

Nehring said the line was older, therefore prone to breaks. He said being it’s a main line, more people than normal were affected by the interruption of service. Nehring said pressure should be sufficient in all parts of town by now as water from the treatment plants refilled the system.

He said customers may experience dirty or cloudy water resulting from the lines being drained, and that crews will be working all day today flushing lines.

Nehring said if you have any questions to contact city hall at 598-2941. Again, the City of Center is under a boil water notice until further notification.
