Center man revives long-time church as new pastor

A local man has made the decision to take over the ministry at a longtime church in Shelby County that’s been closed for several years. Josh Crawford, who recently served as a program coordinator at Shelby County Outreach Ministries, says the time was right to pursue becoming the pastor at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

He said it was a tough decision for his family to leave their church at New Harmony, where he and his family had been attending. Crawford’s first day in the pulpit as pastor at Pleasant Grove will be at 11 Sunday, June 22, and says he has a lot of hope with re-opening the church. Crawford said he attended the church as a child, and has family members buried there at the cemetery.

Crawford extends not only an invitation for the Pleasant Grove Community to attend Sunday’s first service, but to everyone. He says to bring a covered dish for fellowship following his first sermon.

Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church is located on County Road 1470, off Hwy. 87, between Center and Timpson.
