Curtain goes up tonight on Joaquin Centennial Celebration, concert & fireworks Saturday night

After months of planning, the City of Joaquin's Centennial celebration is this weekend. Activities get started at 6 tonight with a free gospel concert at the Joaquin High School Gym featuring The Stanleys and Trey Wilson. The first clue for the $500 treasure hunt will also be given at tonight's concert.

According to Centennial chair-person Kathy Baker, Saturday's schedule is full of fun for the entire family, starting with a parade at 10 a.m., vendor booths, Jaws of Life Demonstration and BBQ brisket plate sale by the Joaquin Fire Dept., in addition to games for the kids, local singers performing from 12 to 3, including Sherry Lee, Olivia Worsham, Dr. Debra Worsham, Mark Lawrence, Shelby Kay and Cassie Kay among others. Recognitions and awards will begin at 1 p.m., and the cake walk. Ms. Baker says events move to the Logansport Riverfront for Saturday night.

Hitting the stage at 7 will be Sherry Lee, followed by the band, Windstorm at 8.

The fireworks display along the riverfront is to start at 9 o’clock.
