Local business man on waiting list for double lung transplant

A Center businessman is on a waiting list for a double lung transplant at Methodist Hospital in Houston after battling through a multitude of health issues.

Kayla Huffman says her dad's condition was misdiagnosed six years ago, but thankfully he's headed in the right direction now.

Kevin O’Connor, the owner of KO Plumbing Company, went through six months of testing before being accepted for the transplant. O'Connor and his wife, has had to temporarily relocate to Houston until released once he receives the transplant.

Ms. Huffman says her dad was told he had had a heart attack originally, but in November was diagnosed with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome or ARDS, which consist of Pulmonary Fibrosis and emphysema. She says there’s no treatment for the condition, and O’Connor is fortunate to be in otherwise great health.

O’Connor has led an active life in Shelby County, through his church, Center Christian Fellowship, as a volunteer fireman, a coach of softball and as a plumber.

Ms. Huffman said it’s a great honor and blessing to be a recipient of such a wonderful gift. Being away from home and not working has placed a strain on the O’Connor family. Ms. Huffman says a gofundme account has been set up to help her dad and mom through this time. To donate, just go to gofundme.com and type in Center, Texas to pull up the donation page for the O’Connors.
