Bobbie Grubbs takes stand in wife's Capital murder trial, told of how he controlled her

Despite the wishes of attorneys, Bobbie Grubbs took the witness stand during testimony in Deedra Grubbs’ Capital murder trial yesterday.

Grubbs was sentenced last month to life in prison without parole for the shooting death and shooting assault of two employees at the Joaquin Country Inn in April two years ago.

Grubbs said during the crime spree in April 2012, he intentionally tried to scare Deedra, so as not to leave him. He admitted over their years together of taking away her bi-polar medication so he could control and dominate her.

From having her get him into her former employer’s house in The Woodlands to take guns and jewelry on April 25, to the shooting incident in Joaquin on April 27, to the time they were captured, Bobbie Grubbs admitted to threatening and manipulating his wife to do what he wanted.

During Tuesday’s testimony, the hardened criminal admitted to killing Martha Chan and shooting Sam Watts and Marilyn Retamar, but said he never discussed any of his plans with Deedra, nor was she in or near the motel room when the shootings took place.

When asked by defense attorney Deck Jones if he turned Deedra into a fugitive, Grubbs responded by saying, “Yes I did.”

Both the state and defense have rested their case, with closing remarks expected today in District Judge Charles Mitchell’s courtroom.

Deedra Grubbs faces life in prison without parole if found guilty.
