Sports Round-up 6/2/14, Baseball Riders named to 20-3A All-District Honors

The Dist. 20-3A All-District baseball selections have been announced, and several Center Roughriders have been chosen for post-season honors. Among those are Rider pitcher Dalton Horton who received Offensive MVP honors. First team infield, are Riders Josh Burns and Taylor Tomlin; and second team recognition to Rider pitchers Caiden Rainbolt and Jacob Mitchell, and outfield Ross Mahan. Tabbed the Dist. 20-3A MVP is William Rittenberry of Carthage; Defensive MVP is Gentry Ford of Hudson; Newcomer of the Year is Jared Blissett of Carthage; and Coach of the Year is Jim Goldman of Carthage. The Riders finished a great year as area finalist.

 

At the girls’ softball state tournament over the weekend:

 

The new Class 3A state champ is LaGrange, as they take a 7-3 win over Van; Aledo is the 4A champion with a 10-3 win over Ennis; and Deer Park beat The Woodlands, 8-2 to grab the 5A title. Last Thursday, Weimar took a 4-3 win over Harleton in the 1A title game, while Crawford grabbed the 2A championship with a 5-3 win over East Bernard.

 

As for the boys,

 

The No. 1 state-ranked Douglass Indians are headed to Round Rock for the state baseball tournament after sweeping defending state champion Price Carlisle in the Class A Region III Final, 7-0 Thursday and 9-0 Saturday afternoon in Lufkin. Both games had to fight off rain delays. Joining Douglass at state will be Anson, Dawson and Flatonia.

 

College Station beat Silsbee Thursday night to win the Class 3A Region III Final, and will be at state along with Lubbock Cooper, Argyle and Sinton.

 

In the 2A Region III Final Troy beat Salado, 1-0 to advance to the state tourney. Other region winners headed to state are Idalou, Sunnyvale and East Bernard.

By the way, Hallsville took the 4A, Region II championship.

 

The Garrison ISD has a new athletic director and head football coach as high school principal Lance Bernard has taken the position after Craig Barker left for Kaufman. Bernard was principal at Garrison for five years, and has coaching experience in Garrison, Hemphill, Alto and Atlanta. Garrison will be a member of the newly formed Dist. 3A-Div. 2 district in football, which includes Corrigan-Camden, Newton, Hemphill, Deweyville and Crockett.

 

Center ISD Tennis will be having summer clinics for incoming 4th-6th
graders, incoming 7th-8th graders, and incoming 9th-12th graders. The
