DeSoto Parish convicted child killer formally sentenced to die

Convicted DeSoto Parish child-killer Brian Horn officially received the death sentence Wednesday morning in Mansfield, as District Judge Robert Burgess sent him to the Louisiana State Penitentiary to await execution.

The 37-year old Horn was found guilty last month of first-degree murder in the death of 12-year old Justin Bloxom of Stonewall. The crime took place in March of 2010.

Judge Burgess blocked the defense from allowing Horn to speak and apologize to Bloxom’s family from the stand. His attorney had sought a continuance, which was denied by Judge Burgess. Their appeal to the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeal also was denied, and the Louisiana Supreme Court turned down a request for a review of the decisions.

Amy Fletcher, Justin's mother, directly addressed Horn while in court, saying, "May God have mercy on your soul.”  Ms. Fletcher says she suffers from depression, uncontrollable bouts of crying, fear, guilt and nightmares.
