James Orvis Davis

James Orvis Davis, 91, of Pineland passed away peacefully at home on January 25, 2025. He was born on
October 11, 1933, in the Sardis community of Shelby County, the son of Homer and Velma Davis. James was a
loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather and friend who will be deeply
missed by all who knew him.
James is survived by wife, Joyce Davis, of 21 years. Sister, Cassie Balch. Sister-in-law, Sue Garffer. Preceded in
death by his first wife of 49 years, Joan Oates Davis.

Davis, Sister - Dorothy Goodwin, Stepson - Rusty Mott, Daughter-in-law - Rebecca Davis.
He is survived by his children, Robin Davis and wife, Jeannette of McKinney, Texas, Roy Davis and wife, Amy of
Center, Texas and Jamie Davis of Memphis, Tennessee.
He is survived by his grandchildren, his siblings and many extended family members and friends. (listed below),
James was a hardworking and dedicated man. He was an Army veteran who served during the Korean War. After
honorable discharge from the Army, he spent many years working in the oil field industry of southeast Texas and
south Louisiana before returning to Shelby County to run his own chicken farm. He was known for his hard work
and the love of horse trading. He loved sharing stories and spending time with his family and friends.

A celebration of James’s life will be held on Monday, January 27th at Watson and Son’s Funeral Home in Center,
Texas, beginning with a visitation at 9:00 a.m. followed by a service at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Oaklawn
Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Davis, Josh Davis, Michael Mann, Zachary Mott, Chris West, and Justin Mott.
