Bennie Evelyn Alford, 99, of Tenaha, Texas, passed away on October 8,
2024, Center, Texas. She was born on July 9, 1925, in Shelby County, Texas,
to the late Andy Bryant Cobb and Essie (Smith) Cobb.
Graveside service will be held at 10AM on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at
Enterprise Cemetery, County Road 4323, Tenaha, Texas, with Bro. Wayne
Butler officiating.
Bennie was raised in Shelby County. She was raised one of six children.
Bennie married the love of her life, John Bail Alford, at the early age of
fourteen. The two had seven children. They devoted over 60 years to each
other before John passed away in 1999. She worked for Robbie’s
Supermarket for over 30 years. Bennie was a loving mother, grandmother,
great grandmother, and great-great grandmother. She enjoyed painting,
crocheting, and quilting. Bennie was a fantastic cook. She had savory
biscuits and chicken-n-dumplings, among many other dishes. She enjoyed
the outdoors and loved growing flowers. Bennie loved the Lord and served
through United Methodist Church, Tenaha, for many years.
She is survived by her daughters,

Bennie is preceded in death by her husband, J.B. “Jake” Alford; son, Larry
Hoyt Alford; daughters, Barbara Ann Smith, Brenda Daniels; parents, Andy
and Essie Cobb; grandsons, Donnie Spurlock and Timmy Spurlock; son-in-
law, Kenny Donahoe; one sister and four brothers.
The family would like to thank Pine Grove Nursing Home and everyone that
contributed to the kind and compassionate care given to Bennie over the
last five years.
