Henry Douglas Fincher, 91, of San Augustine, went home to heaven on September 14, 2024. He was born
August 1, 1933 to John Henry and Mary Edith Richards Fincher in Center, Texas. He was a graduate of Shelbyville
High School and East Texas Baptist College in Marshall. He was an Army Veteran.
God called him to preach as a teenager and he preached the gospel for most of his life, pastoring churches in
Texas, Louisiana, and Oregon. He was interested in souls being saved and lives being changed. He made lasting
friendships in each church, becoming a part of the lives of the congregation. He would soon discover the hunters
and fishermen in order to plan outdoor activities with them.
God gifted him with tremendous talent as a master gunsmith and photographer. He built beautiful, one-of-a-kind
rifles and took stunning pictures of birds, wildlife, landscapes, and people to share with family and friends.
He was a storyteller and could remember family details as well as events in each church he pastored. He shared
these in person, in his book, in newspapers, and on Facebook. He took many pictures throughout the years and
always seemed to have one to illustrate his stories.
He loved his kids and grandkids and counted them as precious blessings. He and his wife, Pam, shared over 34
years of life and love. She was faithful to care for him until God took him home.
When someone died, Doug always said they'd crossed the Jordan. Now he has crossed the Jordan and is safe
with Jesus and family.
