Kathie Gunther Hughes was born in Westchester County, New York, on July 19, 1945. She lived in Long
Island, Cape Cod, Sao Paulo, Brazil, Istanbul, Turkey, and Center, Texas. She travelled all the world except
Antarctica. She raised and trained horses for jumping and dressage. She loved animals. She was fluent in
English and Portuguese. She was both gifted and beautiful. She loved living in Center. She died August 3, 2024,
in her home, surrounded and held by her family.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Mack Hughes of Center; son, Michael Wimert of Miami; daughter, Casey
Wimert Horner of Milwaukee; grandsons, David and Daniel Wimert of Miami; sisters, Roni Lenz of Fernandina
Beach, Florida and Trish Russell of Indianapolis.
She will be buried in Short Cemetery near Center. She wanted no flowers, no wake, and no funeral.
