Flossie Estelle McDonald Radcliff

Flossie Estelle McDonald Radcliff, ?89, of Center, Texas passed away at her home on November 24, 2023. She was born April 7, 1934 near Gilt Edge, TN to sharecropper parents John Curtis McDonald and Nannie Mae Jones McDonald, and was one of twelve children. They later moved to Sledge, MS where the family continued sharecropping. Their nearest neighbors at Sledge were the Pride family. Miss Flossie used to tell of seeing their son Charley “always out on that porch trying to learn to play a guitar.” Turns out, he did pretty well.

On July 21, 1951, “Miss Flossie” married her loving and devoted husband, Tom. Together they raised three sons who survive them: Thomas of Logansport, LA; Michael of Memphis, TN and Donald of Center, TX. Tom passed away in 2009; he and Miss Flossie leave four beloved grandchildren: Shelby, Kelly, Stephen and Leigh Ann, their spouses, and numerous great-grandchildren.

Although she never attended formal school, Miss Flossie was a voracious reader, and taught all her boys how to read and write before they entered first grade. Along with a career as a mother and housewife, she proudly earned her GED in her fifties. From the time she was a child, Miss Flossie loved, raised and cared for animals of all kinds...especially farm animals.

In lieu of flowers or other gifts the family requests donations in her honor be made to: Heifer International (Heifer.org).

The family wishes to send special thanks to the fantastic staff of Nacogdoches Medical Center, Shelby E.D., and Hospice of East Texas for their loving care over the recent past. In accordance with her wishes, Mrs. Radcliff has been cremated and no service will be held. To send condolences or to sign an online register, please visit www.mangumfh.net.
