Pauline Oates, 86, of Nacogdoches, Tx passed away on October 28, 2021. She was born on October 2, 1935 in Shelby County to the late Reeves and Esther Mae Holt.  Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, November 5, 2021 at Mangum Funeral Home in Center, Texas.

Mrs. Pauline asks that you take a walk with her in her journey through her life.  She was a wife and mother, a job that she loved more than all others. She loved antiques and would often restore them.  Pauline was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star #722 in Athens, Texas.  She was also a member of The Daughters of the Republic of Texas.  Pauline had many jobs that she was proud of.  She was a manager of Kenwin Department store in Athens. She worked as Director of Housekeeping for The Spanish Trace Inn.  Pauline was Deputy Tax Assessor and Collector in Real County, Texas for a time.  She was co-owner of White’s Auto Store in San Augustine.  She was also a manager at Vassarett Manufacturing Company.  Pauline received a certificate from the State of Texas Department of Health for her outstanding work she did in nursing homes throughout the county.  She prided herself on taking care of her family and helping Harold out with things around the house and land that they owned.  Pauline would feed cattle, take care of baby chickens, and anything else that needed to be done.  Life was never dull.  Every time there was a need, God showed her the place and direction to go and gave her the confidence to do the job.  Whether it was using a hammer to build something, shoot a gun, or build a fence, she could do it all.  She would do the job and then say, “All is well.”

Pauline is survived by her children, Stephen Reeves Oates and wife, DuJuana “Susie”, and Terrie Jean McAden; grandchildren, Rachel D’Lyn Oates Clark and husband, Cliff, and Joshua Chase McAden and fiancé, Wendy Serrano; great-grandchild, Callyn Reese Clark; and brother-in-law, Daryl Wade Oates and wife, Ann.

She is preceded in death by husband, Harold Donece Oates; father, Reeves Holt; mother, Esther Mae Dockens Danley; brothers, Murvel Holt and Tommy Lynn Holt; and sisters, Billie Jean Holt Hinton and Bonnie Duncan.
