Merline "Miss Pete" Mancil Hayden Byley

 

Merline “Miss Pete” Mancil Hayden Byley, 88, passed away on September 29, 2021 in San Augustine, Texas. Miss Pete was born on March 11, 1933 to Noel Mancil and wife Josie. She married her first husband Ted Hayden on November 4, 1954, and they were married for 38 years until he passed away. A year later she met and married her second husband Fred Byley on June 25, 1994 in Pineland, Texas. Until his death. 

 

Miss Pete is preceded in death by her son Jeffery Hayden; parents; Noel and Josie Mancil, brothers; Roger Mancil, William Mancil, John Mancil and sister Nancy Jane Mancil Bailey.

 

She is survived by her twin sister; Earline Mancil, daughter; Helen Mullins and husband Mike, granddaughters; Shasta Lovell, Tiffany Mullins, numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

 

Miss Pete was always a hard worker and wore many hats, anything from picking cotton in the field as a child to waitressing, and cooking. She always had an open invitation and door for friends and family to come gossip with her over a good cup of coffee. Miss Pete always had an open bed and tray of good food for anyone that needed it. She loved being the life of the party anywhere she went. You could never miss Miss Pete out and about you could hear her a mile away talking. She had a magical green thumb that was also a master at the crochet arts, and quilting. 

 

Viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 4, 2021 at Watson and Sons Funeral Home in Center, Texas. Graveside services will follow the viewing Monday, October 4, 2021 at Mount Herman Cemetery in Center, Texas.
