Katy L. Purdy

Katy L. Purdy, 89, of Houston, passed away Wednesday, September 8, 2021, in Houston.  

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 10, 2021, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center.  Graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 11, 2021, at Timpson Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery in Timpson with Bro. Lamar Denby officiating.  

Born October 10, 1931, in San Augustine County, Katy is the daughter of Arbie Flournoy and Zelma Wilkinson Flournoy.  Katy grew up in Shelbyville, graduating from Shelbyville High School on May 19, 1950. She went on to complete 9 years of higher education at University of Houston.  From September 10, 1950 until her retirement on July 1, 1984, Katy was a secretary for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.  In her free time, she enjoyed reading, yardwork, and tending to her inside plants.  Katy was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by her brother, Guy Flournoy and wife Joyce of Shreveport, Louisiana; sisters, Sarah V. Lewis and husband John of Huntington and Rachel Brannon and husband Ronnie of Hallsville; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Flournoy of Longview and Carolyn Flournoy of Tenaha; brother-in-law, George Duke of Timpson; also, numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

Preceded in death by her husband, James M. Purdy; parents, Arbie Flournoy and Zelma Wilkinson Flournoy; brothers, Henry D. Flournoy, Clifford E. Flournoy, Paul Flournoy, and Wilburn "Pete" Flournoy; sisters, Betty S. Duke and Weeda Lowry; brother-in-law, Ray Lowry.
