Charles Wayne Askins, 96, of Timpson, Texas passed away on March 7, 2020 in Garrison, Texas. Born November 22, 1923, in Timpson, Texas, to the late Henry “Pete” Dewey Askins and Alice Juanita (Franks) Askins.  Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 2020 at 2:00PM at Good Hope Baptist Church, FM 2667, Timpson, Texas, with Bro. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Monday, March 9, 2020 at Taylor Funeral Home, Timpson, Texas.

Charles was born and raised in Shelby County.  He attended Blair School. After graduation he served his great country during WWII in the United States Army.  He returned to Timpson and married the love of his life, Doris Crump, on February 24, 1945.  They welcomed two sons, Billy and Jerry. Sadly, Jerry passed away from cystic fibrosis at the young age of 3.  Charles and Doris spent over 56 years together before her passing in 2001.  Charles became a small cattle rancher at the age of only 6 years old.  It was from that moment he became more and more involved in cattle ranching and farming.  Charles could be found at the Center Livestock Auction every Wednesday at high noon. This was a weekly event he would not miss.  Sunday afternoon you could find Charles in his favorite chair watching football games, especially when the Cowboy’s were playing.  He also found great joy in riding the mule atv with his favorite dog, Bullet.  Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.  He always made sure his family was taken care of.  Charles was that person if you had met him, he left you with a smile.  He was a dear friend to many in Shelby County and will be missed.  He loved the Lord and was a founding member of Good Hope Baptist Church.

He is survived by his son, Billy Askins and wife Kathy; grandchildren, Laurie King and husband Brian, Ricky Askins and wife Roxie, Randy Askins, Linsey Campbell and husband Jerrod;  great grandchildren, Justin King and wife Holli, Ethan and Logan Askins, Oliver and Elliot Hilliard, Garrett and Blair Askins, Jaycee, Alleigh, and Jackson Campbell; one great great grandchild on the way; and a host of family and friends that will miss him dearly.

Charles is preceded in death by his wife, Doris; son, Jerry Lynn Askins; parents, Henry “Pete” and Alice Askins; and brother Horace Askins.

Pallbearers serving will be Randy Askins, Ricky Askins, Brian King, Jerrod Campbell, Ethan Askins, Justin King, Garrett Askins, Rick Ornelas, and Robert Williams.
