Wanda Stanley Yorston

 

 

Wanda Stanley Yorston passed away peacefully at home on February 10, 2020. She was born July 4, 1923 in Center Texas. She grew up in Center until her first marriage to Ned Campbell. The couple moved to Texico, New Mexico. After their divorce she met Howard Joseph Yorston. They were married in Clovis, New Mexico on July 5th, 1946. They were married for 67 years until Howard’s death in Houston on August 18th, 2013.

 
Visitation will be held at Mangum Funeral Home Monday, February 17th from 12:00 pm until 1:00pm with services following at 1:00pm at Mangum Funeral Home, 420 San Augustine St, Center, Texas. Interment will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Shelby County.
Howard and Wanda moved to Fort Leonard Wood, MO while Howard attended school. They then moved to Shreveport, La, followed by Jackson Mississippi. They moved to Houston Texas in 1961 where they remained for the rest of their lives.


After Howard retired from Exxon they traveled extensively for the next few years, making repeated trips to England, Canada and Indonesia.


Wanda is survived by her daughters Sherwyn Sherman, Margaret Cathi Schulze and Stacy Stoker; sister LaRue Spencer; grandchildren; Keith Sherman Jr and Faith Howells and four great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Howard Joseph Yorston; parents Rudolphus Doff Stanley and Ludie Hendricks Stanley; brothers Rudolphus, Leon and Kenneth Stanley; sisters Evelyn and Oneta.


They family wishes to thank her caregivers Michelle and Lianna, for all of their excellent care and comfort during Wanda’s last days.
