David Harold Bain

 

 

David Harold Bain, 93, of Center, Texas passed away on February 15, 2020 in Center, Texas.  He was born September 1, 1926, in Slaton, Texas, to Melvin H. Bain Sr. and Ruby (Hoffman) Bain.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, on February 18, 2020 at First Baptist Church in Center, Texas.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, February 17, 2020 at Mangum Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 19, 2020 at Shillersville Cemetery in Victoria, Texas. 

 

David grew up in Teague and Mexia, Texas. As an adult, he acquired his GED and during the war, he worked on planes in Corpus Christi and Aloe Field in Victoria, Texas. David also worked for many years in the Texas oil field as well as a security guard at Alcoa Aluminum in Point Comfort, Texas. As a young man, he married Ramona Garrett and the two shared a lovely life together until her passing in 1993. They had two children, Rebecca and David Harold, Jr. Later in 1996, he married Dorothy Baugh. They were happily married for more than 24 years. 

 

David was an avid outdoorsman who loved fishing, camping, and boating. An adventurous man, he enjoyed traveling whenever he could. The highlight of his life was spending time with his grandchildren. David was well known for his fierce eagerness to be a grown man. He was a man’s man. He was proud of the years he worked with the Baptist Church Builders, and in later years, he served by assuring elderly had access to their homes and had all necessary safety features. David was a man eager to serve others in need. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Center and treasured his fellowship with the FL Moffett Sunday School Class. 

 

He is survived by his wife of more than 20 years, Dorothy Ballard Bain; daughter, Rebecca Vergiels and husband, Victor; son, David Bain, Jr. and wife, Marsha; sister, Mary Wendland of San Marcos, Texas. He is also survived by three grandsons, Steven Mooney and wife, Jo, John Mooney and wife Xiao and Mathew Bain and wife, Grace; one granddaughter, Britney Bain Brockwell; three great-grandsons, Logan Mooney, Christopher and Jonathan Brockwell; and one great-granddaughter, Emily Bain; many nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

 

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Ramona Garrett Bain; parents, Melvin H. Bain and Rubye Hoffman Bain; sisters, Nyline Ward, Joanna Pye and Peggy Woods; and one brother, Melvin H. Bain, Jr. 

 

Pallbearers will be Steven Mooney, John Mooney, Matthew Bain, David Andrusick, Terry Caudle and Emmitt Harvey.

 

Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the FL Moffett Sunday School Class, Rogers Yarborough, David Bain, Victor Vergiels and Billy Ballard. 

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Nehemiah Fund at First Baptist Church in Center.
