Hilburn Scruggs

 

 

Hilburn Scruggs, 86, of Joaquin, passed away Monday, January 13, 2020, in Mansfield, Louisiana.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 18, 2020, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center with Bro. J.C. Lewis officiating.  Following will be a military honors service under the direction of VFW Post #8904.  Interment will be held at Lone Cedar Cemetery in Joaquin.  Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 11:00 a.m.


Mr. Scruggs was born September 5, 1933, to John Norris Scruggs and Annis Mae Lee Scruggs.  He served in the United States Army and went on to work in the oilfield from which he retired.  Mr. Scruggs loved working and spending time with family and friends.  He was a member of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church.


He is survived by his sons, H. Glenn Scruggs and wife Dorothea of Shreveport, Louisiana and Dennis Scruggs and wife Sherry of Joaquin, Texas; daughter, Joanne Scruggs English and husband Stevie of Joaquin, Texas; grandchildren, Hollie Scruggs Adams and husband Chad of Joaquin, Texas, Brooke Scruggs Diven and husband Kane of Joaquin, Texas, Lindsey Scruggs Baillio and husband Jody of Bossier City, Louisiana, Noah Glenn Scruggs and wife Emily of Metarie, Louisiana, Race English of Joaquin, Texas, Cam English of Joaquin, Texas, Randy Nelson of Fairborn, Ohio, Lora Nelson of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Hollie Jolley of Bossier City, Louisiana, and Jessica Peterson of Shreveport, Louisiana; great grandchildren, Caren, Callie, and Cierra Adams, Titan Diven, Shelby Diven Pride, Lila, Jillian, Sadie, Evalynn, and Dallas Baillio, Ezra and Alyza Scruggs, Carson Guyer, and Harper Wilkinson; sister, Eva Scruggs Melton; brother, Joe Scruggs and wife Frankie; brother-in-law, Fred Foreman and wife Frances of LaMarque, Texas; sister-in-law, Maxine Moye of Pasadena; special loved ones, Gail Russell Scruggs and Janet L. Tucker; his little dog, Diesel; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
He is preceded in death by the love of his life of 64 years, Glenda Gail Scruggs; parents, John Norris Scruggs and Annis Mae Lee Scruggs; sisters, Infant Mae Dell Scruggs, Lera Childress, Avis Lambert Lout, Errollene Brimberry, and Audrey Dyer; brothers, Hervey Scruggs and W.L. “Chuck” Scruggs.


Pallbearers will be Chad Adams, Jody Baillio, Kane Diven, Noah Scruggs, Race English, Cam English, and Titan Diven. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenneth Dickerson, Newton Johnson, and the whole Ram House crew.


A special thank you to Dr. Billy Bickham and nurse, Gloria, for their compassionate care over the years, along with Pharmacist Benny Owens with Headrick’s Drug Store in Logansport, Louisiana.
A special thank you to friends, David Yule, Lewis and Craig Wright, along with decades of oilfield family.
