Wilburn 'Pete" Flournoy

 

 

Wilburn “Pete” Flournoy, 78, of Tenaha, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2020, in Nacogdoches.


Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 10, 2020, at Watson & Sons Funeral Home in Center.  Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 11, 2020, at Watson & Sons Chapel with Bro. James Hall and Bro. Dock Lazarine officiating.  Interment will follow at Buena Vista Cemetery in Shelby County.


Mr. Flournoy was born July 1, 1941, in the Patroon Community of Shelby County, to Arbie Alec Flounoy and Zelma Viola Wilkinson Flournoy.  He graduated from Center High School and went on to join the United States National Guard.  Mr. Flournoy retired after thirty-eight years from the Texas Highway Department. His hobbies included hunting, taking care of his cows, gardening, and most of all, playing with grandbabies.  Mr. Flournoy was a member of Buena Vista Baptist Church in Timpson, where he served as a Deacon. 


He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carolyn Flournoy of Tenaha, Texas; children, Kenneth Flournoy and wife Cheryl of Tenaha, Texas and Susan Flournoy Hairgrove of Tenaha, Texas; grandchildren, Jessica Bush and husband Colton of Tenaha, Texas, Colton Hairgrove of Tenaha, Texas, Taylor Burns and husband Lynn of Tenaha, Texas, and Matthew Flournoy of Tenaha, Texas; great grandchildren, Eli Bush of Tenaha, Texas, Addie Bush of Tenaha, Texas, and Layton Burns of Tenaha, Texas; brother, Guy Flournoy and wife Joyce of Shreveport, Louisiana; sisters, Katie Purdy of Houston, Texas, Weeda Lowry of Center, Texas, Sarah Lewis and husband John of Huntington, Texas, and Rachel Brannon and husband Ronnie of Hallsville, Texas; sister-in-law, Dorothy Flournoy of Longview, Texas; brother-in-law, George Duke of Timpson, Texas; numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, and other family members; and special friend, Matthew Wright.


He is preceded in death by his parents, Arbie Alec and Zelma Viola Flournoy; grandchild, Emmie Burns; brothers, Dalton Flournoy, Clifford Flournoy, Paul Flournoy; sister, Betty Duke; and sister-in-law, Norma Flournoy.


Pallbearers will be Colton Hairgrove, Colton Bush, Matthew Flournoy, Lynn Burns, Matthew Wright, and Paul Engle.
