Funeral Services for Viola Gammage, age 88, of San Augustine, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday morning, April 12, 2019, in the White Rock Baptist Church, with Bro. Sonny Scarborough and Bro. Robert Horne officiating, with burial following in the Liberty Hill Cemetery in San Augustine. Visitation will be from the hours of 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., on Thursday evening, April 12, 2019, at Wyman Roberts.

 

Viola was born to Tressie Bell (Cummings) and Louis Higginbotham on June 27, 1930, in San Augustine, and passed from this life on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, in Lufkin.  She was a graduate of San Augustine High School. She married the love of her life, Thois J. Gammage in November of 1947, having celebrated 58 years of marriage until his death in February of 2006.  She was a faithful and longtime member of the White Rock Missionary Baptist Church in San Augustine.

She enjoyed working out in her garden or being out in God's country on her tractor, which she recently retired at the age of 85. In the past few years, she enjoyed weekly trips to her beloved church where she and a few of her dear friends would crochet baby bonnets and winter caps, all of which were donated to children at Texas Children's Hospital and MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and the Fort Bend County Women's Shelter in Rosenberg, TX.

 

Those to who she leaves to cherish her memory include her beloved daughter, Deborah Frawley of San Augustine, her grandchildren, Jason Terranova of San Augustine, Brandi Terranova and husband, Wayne King of Richmond; great-grandchild, Chelsea Terranova of Austin; grand-son-in-law,  John Dyche of Richmond, and her little sweetheart, Christian "Chris" Sauceda of Richmond.

 

She is preceded in death by her beloved parents, Louis and Tressie Higginbotham, her beloved husband of 58 years, Thois J. Gammage, sister Mildred Louise Higginbotham, and brothers, J.C. Higginbotham and Ferman Higginbotham.
