Melva Jean Wagstaff, 90, of Center, Texas, passed away on March 24, 2019 in Center, Texas. She was born on January 10, 1929 in the Paxton Community to Jim Sanders and Zora Roberts Sanders. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 at Mangum Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. William Cox officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park. 


A visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at Mangum Funeral Home. 


Jean grew up in the Center and Broaddus areas. After high school, she attended the Panola Nursing Program and received her degree before dedicating her life’s work to others in the medical field. She was a selfless and caring woman who served others and their needs above her own. Jean enjoyed playing 42, spending time outdoors camping and RVing, quilting and cooking. She also loved her dogs and the joy they brought to her life. Many days, you could find Jean at the Senior Citizens site socializing and helping out where she could. For fun, she loved to attend Bluegrass Festival. More than any other activity, she most treasured the moments spent with her family. Jean was a member of Northside Church of Christ. She had a passion for the Lord and was devoted to His service.


Jean is survived by her husband, Jack Balcom; son, Ronnie Wagstaff, Jr. and wife, Judy; brother, Rudolph Sanders; sister, Edith Lewis; grandchildren, Lee Powers and wife, Kaylynn, Kavin Powers and wife, Connie, Jay Wagstaff, Cheryl Darden, Jarod Hunt, Hillary Weech; great grandchildren, Austin Wagstaff, April Font and husband, Darren, Amber Babcock and husband, Dustin, Michael Powers and wife, Shelby, Krystal Whatley and husband, JT, Benjamin Powers, Andrew Powers, Sydney Weech, Natasha Weech; great great grandchildren, Dalton Font, Kenzie Font, Allie Drake, Jaxon Babcock, Kolby Powers, Kynlie Powers, Shaelynn Whatley, Luke Whatley, Chasten Whatley, Lauren Darden, Colton Darden; and a host of family and friends that will miss her dearly.

 

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Austin Oran Wagstaff; son, Ronnie Wagstaff Sr.; daughter, Peggy Dowdy; grandson, Mikeal Powers; sister, Reba Sanders; brother, Curtis Sanders. Pallbearers will be Brandon Penick, Scott Baldwin, Michael Windham, Matt Chandler, Mark Chandler and Darren Font.
