Joe Parrish Bush, 91, of Shelbyville, Texas, passed away on September 7, 2018 in Nacogdoches surrounded by his wife Selma, daughter, granddaughter and great granddaughter when he went peacefully into the arms of our loving Lord Jesus. Joe was born in Tenaha, Texas, May 12, 1927 and was raised in Hurstown until his death September 7, 2018.
The Lord had blessed Joe abundantly. He was able to work his entire 91 years of life.  He worked for the U.S. Forest Service for over 30 years and after retirement he just could not bear the thought of being idle.  He then went to work for the City of Center and then the County doing road maintenance.
After retiring from those 2 jobs, he then decided to drive his son's gravel truck until he was in his early 80's.
Joe was a wonderful provider for his family.  He worried so much about their well-being and never thought about himself.  He worried himself sick at times about his wife which always called "Mother."  One of his last words to his daughter was to take good care of "Mother."  That's just how he was about his family.
On the side, Joe loved to work in his shop and help his neighbors and friends with their lawn mowers or tractors.  He loved people and every chance he got he wanted to reminisce old times.  He cherished all his friends and he never met a stranger.  He was always "striking up" a conversation with someone everywhere he went, even though he was hard of hearing.
After his son, Stevie, passed away in 2014 his health began to decline.  He grieved over his loss until the day he passed away himself. Family and friends tried so hard to comfort him but he never was able to overcome the grief he felt.
Joe's passion was being outside, mowing grass.  He loved to keep his place and his son's place looking immaculate.  Although, his health had declined so much, he still pushed himself to do the impossible and keep both places mowed.  His wonderful neighbors and friends had offered so many times to mow for him but he just wouldn't give it up.  A couple days before he went to be with Jesus he was wanting to
get on his old tractor and mow that grass!
Joe had a tender heart when it came to animals.  He made his family promise to take care of his cat, Miracle, that he rescued from a tree when she was just a kitten.  He bottle fed her for weeks just to save her life.  Stray dogs and cats would always appear at his house and he would faithfully take care of them.  That's the kind of heart he had.  Animals never went hungry or mistreated around Joe.
Now he doesn't have to worry about his family, the grass, animals or anything else on this earth.  He is with the Lord and surrounded by Angels.  For the family it’s a very sad time but not a goodbye....I'll see you later!
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Selma; daughter, Cheryl Kaul and husband Ralf of San Marcus, Texas; brother in law, Charles Killen of McClelland, Texas; grandchildren, Brandi Smith of Xenia, Ohio, Brittany Smith of Jasper. Texas; great grandchildren, Alexxis Allender of Xenia, Ohio, Halle Adams of Jasper, Texas; nephew, Freeman Hancock and Emily of Jasper, Texas; special friends, Larry Trekell and Johnnie of San Augustine, Texas, Michael Neal of Neuville, Texas, Paul Taylor and wife Cathy of Hurstown, Texas, and Doug Curtis of Patroon, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his son, Stevie Bush; parents, Euell and Willie “Lout” Bush; brother, J. C. Bush; sisters, Bernice Baker, Eloise Andrus, and Audrey McGee.
