Growing up in a small area, Vernell spent lots of time with family. A young man by the name of W.J. Goings happened to be her Grandpa’s neighbor. The two met riding horses one day and it sparked a love story that has lasted over 60 years. W.J. and Vernell were married in 1956 and built a beautiful life together until her passing. Vernell was a true woman of dignity and character. She was a faithful wife, an exceptional mom and a selfless, compassionate woman who dedicated her life to others. She was loving, generous and extended a hand of care to all who were in need. Vernell Loved spending time with her family. Moments spent in the kitchen cooking and baking were some of the fondest memories made with her children, grandchildren and friends. She was a member of Dallas Bible Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. After her retirement, W.J. and Vernell moved back to Center and moved their church membership to New Harmony Missionary Baptist Church. They attended regularly there until their failing health prevented them from going.

Goings;  daughter, Glenda Lutz; brother, Jack Collum and wife, Frances and Billy Ray Collum and wife, Deanna; grandchildren, Connie Quintero and husband, Daniel, Jamie Boshart and wife, Chelsea, Kim Dotson and husband, Bud, Evan Lutz and Travis Lutz; and great-grandchildren, Drake, Benicio, Gabriella, Kaydence, Erin, Jaxon and Tuff.
