Harmie Smith

 

 

 

Mr. Smith was born June 7, 1947, in Shreveport, Louisiana. Harmie was the son of the late Harmie and Rose (Justice) Smith. He joined the United States Navy after graduating and served his country for 6 years. He married the love of his life, Joy Harville Smith in 1986 and has spent over 31 years with her before his going home to be with the Lord on October 27, 2017. Harmie was a man of many talents, from owning his own businesses, to teaching auto mechanics, being a Chief Investigator for Shelby County for over 13 years, to being a licensed pilot loving to fly.
 
He was an avid NHRA fan for many years. He loved drag racing. Harmie enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. He enjoyed fishing, anything to do with race cars, eating good food, and anything outdoors. 
 
Harmie is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Joy; daughter, Jacqueline Smith Hamm, Dawne Pickett; sons, Shane Pickett; grandchildren, Alexis Pickett, Dylan Pickett, Rebecca Smith, Ethan Smith, Kristen Smith; and a host family and friends who will miss him greatly. 
 
The Smith family would like to extend a special thanks to his wonderful friends, Jojo Padilla and Kwasi Larode, whom became a blessing to Harmie and his family.
 
He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Christopher Smith; and brother, Artie Smith.
 
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Shelby County Child Advocacy Center, 131 Tenaha St., Center, Texas 75935.
