SISD board re-organizes, hires new baseball coach

The Shelbyville ISD met Tuesday and canvassed the votes from last Saturday’s trustee election, as Mark Bohannon and Tim Bradshaw were sworn-in as new board members.

Superintendent Dr. Ray West said the new school board officers elected were Kelly Parker as president; Etola Jones, vice president, and Joey Lawson, secretary.

In personnel matters, Dr. West said David Turner has been hired as the new Dragon baseball coach. Coach Turner will come to Shelbyville after nine successful seasons at New Deal, located in the panhandle near Lubbock.

Dr. West added that Shelbyville ISD was excited in being able to get a coach with the playoff experience and success that Coach Turner brings to the table. New Deal, like Shelbyville, is also a Class 1A school.

Coach Turner reportedly led New Deal to two trips to the state baseball tournament, one state finalist, and six district champions, and nine playoff appearances.
