San Augustine Man Booked on Numerous Charges

A San Augustine man remains behind bars on numerous charges after an incident last Friday. 58-year old Wallace C. Clifton was arrested for assault of a public servant, resisting arrest, search or transport and disorderly conduct. San Augustine Police report Clifton was also tasered twice during the incident on Holman Street. Officers were dispatched to the area where Clifton was in the middle of the road shouting profanities around small children. When the officer asked Clifton to calm down, he began curing him, and when an attempt was made to subdue the subject, a fight ensued. The officer was able to break free, pulled his taser, and ordered Clifton to the ground. That’s when he became agitated after several commands from the officer, and said to the officer, “tase me”. The incident report said the taser malfunctioned on a first attempt, but was successful a second time. Clifton was given a follow up shock when he failed to comply with the officer. When he was rolled onto his side, Clifton allegedly spat in the officer’s face. Backup assistance from the San Augustine County Sheriff’s office arrived, and Clifton was place in a patrol unit, he allegedly used both feet to kick the door, which struck the officer in the stomach and knocked the breath out of him. Clifton was taken to San Augustine Memorial Hospital where he was cleared by a doctor for incarceration. He was then transported to the San Augustine County Jail.
