Shelby County Judge's Election: Provisional Ballot Certification Deadline Today

Today’s the final day the five provisional Republican Party Primary voters in Shelby County have to present their ID to voter registrar Debora Riley to certify their vote in last Tuesday’s election.

Shelby County Republican Party Chairperson Leigh Porterfield says there’s a possibility the ballot board could be meeting tonight to review and accept those provisional ballots, if not, they’ll meet Tuesday as scheduled. T

he ballot board’s meeting is closed to the public, and only one representative for each candidate can attend. The big question is will those five voter’s ballots change the Shelby County Judge’s race, after last Tuesday’s one-vote presumptive victory by challenger Allison Harbison over County Judge Rick Campbell.

Whoever comes away with the least votes, Ms. Porterfield says may or may not decide to have a re-count done. She added they’ll have two days after this Friday’s canvassing, to send written notice to her. She said a recount could be by re-running the ballots in the tabulating machine, or by hand.

By the way, if there’s a tie, Ms. Porterfield said there would be another election on primary run-off day, May 27, for the Shelby County Judge’s race.
