TxDOT Update

LUFKIN – A pre-construction meeting was held in the Lufkin District Office Thursday signaling the beginning of a new construction project in Angelina County.

Work is scheduled to begin on US 69 South that is designed to widen the roadway to a four-lane rural divided highway from FM 1270 in Zavalla to the Jasper County Line.

Drewery Construction Co., Nacogdoches TX, will serve as contractor for the $37.5 million project that is slated for completion in early 2023, weather permitting. Contractors will begin setting barricades Sept.16 and work is scheduled to begin on Sept. 21.

“This project will widen the roadway from Zavalla to the Jasper County Line at the edge of the Lufkin District. There are other projects currently underway from Huntington to Zavalla and they are progressing well. Once completed, these projects will provide for improved traffic flow and enhance the safety of all motorists traveling this corridor,” said Rhonda Oaks, public information officer for the district.

As this project begins, motorists are urged to stay alert for heavy equipment and workers through the area. Reduce speed and obey all traffic control devices, flaggers and lead cars that could be used to detour traffic safely through the work zone.
