Garrison man escaped serious injuries

A Garrison man escaped serious injuries following an accident Monday morning in Rusk County. However, the livestock he was hauling didn’t fair as well. Five head of cattle and one horse are dead following a one-vehicle crash involving a livestock trailer just east of Reklaw. According to DPS, Pete Stokes, was passing a vehicle when it turned in front of him. He swerved to miss the vehicle and the stock trailer came loose and rolled down an embankment. The DPS say Stokes did not have his safety chains hooked up from the truck to the trailer. Two other horses were injured. Stokes was on his way to sell the livestock in New Summerfield. Stokes will be cited for not using chains. The other vehicle left the scene and DPS is trying to find the driver.
