Louisiana is 5th poorest state in the country

The U.S. Census Bureau released two pieces of data Tuesday: poverty numbers and the median income for 2010. According to sources, the national poverty rate in 2010 was 15.1% which is up from 2000 and the highest it's been since 1993. Based on the census, ten states have been noted as having the lowest median income. Louisiana came in as the 5th poorest state in the country. The state has one of the lowest median incomes in the country with $41,896. Louisiana also has the 4th highest poverty rate in the U.S. and the 17th lowest unemployment rate. Currently, Governor Bobby Jindal has proposed the construction of a new gas-to-liquids facility, which is expected to create more than 5,000 jobs.
