Car wreck on State Highway 87 North

A car wreck on State Highway 87 North nearly took the life of the driver, were it not for the quick actions of two good samaritans.  According to DPS at approximately 5:50 p.m. Saturday a Ford Taurus driven by Ricky Lynn Price, 48, of Mt. Enterprise was traveling northbound on State Highway 87 North, where the roadway becomes two-lane. Price crossed the center line into the southbound traffic lanes and continued into the southbound barrow ditch. The vehicle crashed into the woods where it came to rest on its side.  Two men that were driving by the scene of the crash stopped their vehicles and rushed to help Price whose vehicle was beginning to catch on fire when the men arrived at the scene. Newman and Gene Klepper reportedly worked together to get Price out of the vehicle with Klepper breaking the rear window, and Newman crawling inside the flaming car to pull Price out. At the time that the men were able to free Price from the vehicle, the entire car quickly caught on fire.  Price was transported by ACE EMS to Shelby Regional Medical Center for treatment of non incapacitating injuries, and Newman was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
