LUFKIN - The Texas Department of Transportation and BNSF Railway Company will close FM 947, north of Tenaha on Thursday, July 2, for scheduled maintenance on the railroad crossing.

The work will consist of replacing existing sub-base, track adjustments and concrete pads that will provide a smoother crossing for motorists traveling FM 947. BNSF Railway and its contractors will perform the work while TxDOT will oversee traffic control for the project.

The one day project will require that FM 947 be closed to traffic on Thursday, July 2 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and, if weather permits the project to be completed in one day, it will be open to traffic Friday, July 3.

Motorists should expect barricades to be placed and construction signs installed on FM 947 at the intersection of US 59 and at the intersection of FM 947 and FM 2695.

Motorists should obey all traffic barriers and signs as they are placed in an effort to warn the public of the road closure and limit inconvenience as much as possible. Drivers should plan to take alternate routes during the construction period.
