A Newton County pastor had been officially charged with the murder of his nephew.

66-year old Luther Jones is accused of killing 34-year old Curtis Paul Jones in July of 2013 at the Belgrade Baptist Church, southeast of Newton.

A family member says the shooting was the result of a long-time family feud. The victim had been shot numerous times.

The trial was to have started July 13 in Newton County, but a continuance is expected.

District Judge Craig Mixon is to preside.

If Jones is found guilty at trial, he faces 5-99 years in state prison, and a fine up to $10,000.00.
