San Augustine County Commissioners give OK for purchase of another sheriff's office vehicle

San Augustine County Commissioners approved the purchase of a second sheriff's office patrol vehicle at their meeting Tuesday.

The court originally agreed to use unexpected funds to buy a 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe unit a couple of weeks ago for $43,000, and after hearing how repair costs were mounting to keep practically worn-out vehicles going, they voted to include another at the same amount.

Lufkin TxDOT Right-of-Way agent Sid Abernathy was on hand to say San Augustine County's portion of right-of-way for the bridge replacement project on Hwy 96 South at Ayish Bayou would be $1,100.

County Emergency Management Coordinator Robert Cartwright updated commissioners on Lake Sam Rayburn flooding resulting from the heavy rainfall. He noted there were areas of Powell Park & Jackson Hill that had water in their park areas an over roads in several residential areas in Pct. 4, but no major issues as the lake is over the spillway.

Cartwright said and the Army Corp of Engineers has now opened flood gates to drop the lake level.

The outside audit by Tiller & Company was also approved that showed San Augustine County was financially OK.
