A Nacogdoches businessman has been given a 30-day extension on a 90-day due diligence to purchase the closed Hotel Fredonia in downtown Nacogdoches.

Richard Dewitt has until the third week in July to decide on the business deal.

Also, the historic hotel and convention center could benefit from legislation that was approved by the Texas Legislature specifically for the foreclosed properties’ benefit.

The bill allows a portion of the Hotel Occupancy Tax collected in Nacogdoches to be used for the renovation and reopening of the facility.
