DeSoto Parish traffic stop nets drug arrest

Sheriff Rodney Arbuckle would like to announce a drug arrest that resulted from a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 175 on May, 23, 2015 at about 2:00 a.m.

Deputies working with the directed patrol unit initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for improper lane use. The vehicle did not yield for the deputy immediately. Once the vehicle began to pull over, the deputy observed a white object be thrown out of the passenger side of the vehicle.

The deputy approached the vehicle and identified the driver as John Matthew Price (B/M
- DOB: 01/13/1992) of Mansfield, LA. Mr. Price was removed from the vehicle
and handcuffed after deputies smelled both alcohol and what they believed to be burnt marijuana coming from his person. During a pat down, a bag of suspected marijuana was found in Mr. Prices' pocket.

The front passenger was identified as Damion L. Peoples (B/M - DOB: 05/26/1980) of Mansfield, LA and the other two passengers of the vehicle were identified as Terrell
Marcel Powell (B/M - DOB: 11/01/1986) of Mansfield, LA and Carl Douglas (B/M
- DOB: 10/16/1988) of Mansfield, LA.

The deputy was able to find the object thrown from the vehicle and it contained 14 baggies of suspected marijuana as well as 44 packets of suspected powder cocaine. All four suspects were arrested and charged as follows:

John Matthew Price was charged with LA R.S. 40:966.A.(1) Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, LA R.S. 40:967.A.(1) Possession of Schedule II (Cocaine) with Intent to Distribute, and LA R.S. 32:79 Improper Lane Use.

Damion L. Peoples was charged with LA R.S. 40:966.A.(1) Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, LA R.S. 40:967.A.(1) Possession of Schedule II (Cocaine) with Intent to Distribute.

Terrell Marcel Powell was charged with LA R.S. 40:966.A.(1) Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, LA R.S. 40:967.A.(1) Possession of Schedule II (Cocaine) with Intent to Distribute.

Carl Douglas was charged with LA R.S. 40:966.A.(1) Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, LA R.S. 40:967.A.(1) Possession of Schedule II (Cocaine) with Intent to
Distribute.

All four were transported to DeSoto Parish Detention Center and booked.
