May 2015 - Wind

- May’s 31 days were rather calm. The hourly average wind speed was .6 MPH.

- During the month we had 29 of those days with gusts exceeding 10 mph.

 - Another 5 with gusts exceeding 20 mph. Only 2 days below at 8 mph.

- We had gusts of 27 mph on both the 25th & 27th.

- Those winds in addition to our saturated soils are causing our trees to fall and giving our Deep East Texas Coop folks nightmares.  When you see them, please make an effort to tell them “THANKS!” We need to let them know their efforts and success with the difficult job of keeping our service operational does not go unnoticed.

May 2015 - Pollen

- The pollen rebirth was comprised of mostly Grass, with Pecan, Walnut, and Hickory not far behind. By Thursday, we will have a significant increase in the index due to our sunshine. Once again mold will be on the rise …Whew!

- We are at a 5.6 out of 12 index level.  This was due to the rain and a mean temperature of 73 degrees and lots of clouds for May.

- When mowing and trimming, be sure to use eye protection and respiratory masks to reduce inflammation.

        May 2015 - Other

- Mosquitoes’ are out in force due to standing water from all the rain and flooding. Take precautions to protect you, your family, and pets.

Hurricane season begins today, June 1st and runs through the month of November.  The 2015 season is anticipated to be another light year in the Atlantic, but active in the Pacific due to El Nino. More on this El Nino topic in a second email today.

Do you have your contingency plans in place with your family and friends?
