A remarkable history-making season came to an end for the Center Baseball Roughriders in Beaumont Saturday afternoon as Huffman Hargrave completed a sweep of the Class 4A best-of-three region semifinal series with a 13-4 win over the Riders.

Huffman took a 3-1 win in Game 1 Thursday.

It marked the first time in some 38 years that a Rider team had advanced this far into post-season. You have to go back to 1977 when Center lost to Waxahachie in the region final.

Saturday’s game saw Huffman build a 5-0 lead in the first, much like the early outburst in Thursday’s first game. The Falcons were up, 9-0 in the second when a two-hour rain/lightning delay had the game on hold. When played resumed Huffman had built their advantage to 13-0 in the fourth inning. The Riders pushed across four runs in the fifth.

The Carthage Bulldogs were also eliminated from the playoffs in three games when West Orange-Stark came back to win two games Saturday in Lake Charles to advance to the region final against Huffman Hargrave. Carthage won Game 1, 9-0 Thursday, with WO-S taking Game 2, 7-4, then the rubber-game, 4-0.
