The Center Roughriders got a complete game two-hit shutout performance out of Jacob Mitchell to take a 7-0 win over Tatum Friday night. Mitchell also recorded 11 strike-outs. Dalton Horton was 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs. The Riders improve to 7-2, and remain a game back of Carthage in the Dist. 19-4A standings. Carthage (8-1) beat Henderson, 19-0 in 5 innings. The third and final round of district starts Tuesday with the Riders hosting Henderson (1-8).

The Dist. 23-2A race will be interesting the final two weeks as the fight continues for the second and third playoff spots. With Beckville out front at 11-0, Gary has moved into second place at 8-3, with Timpson 7-2 and Joaquin 6-4. The post-season should clear up some after this week. Timpson has four games scheduled this week as they make-up from the weather postponements of last week, including Tuesday’s game at home with Gary and Thursday at Joaquin.

Dist. 24-2A remains a three-team race between three state-ranked, and there’s only 2 losses among the trio. West Sabine holds a one-game lead in first at 12-0, while Broaddus is 11-1 and Colmesneil is 10-1. Rain hampered play last week, as teams only got one game in.
