Tenaha City Council to consider reduction in mayor's salary & hiring of new city secretary today

The City of Tenaha Council will meet at 5:15 p.m. this afternoon and among the agenda items for discussion and possible action will be reduction in salary for the mayor’s position following the mayoral election of 2016. This item was tabled at last month’s meeting, and the city is considering the cut due to budgetary reasons. According to Texas Governmental Code, compensation cannot be changed during the term for which the office is elected or appointed. The council will consider a $100 a week salary.

In addition, hiring of a new city secretary could take place with long-time secretary Doyce Bailey retiring next week.

Other items include approving the Employee Handbook; repairs on a fire truck for $31,900; water rates increase; the use of a warrant roundup for collecting outstanding fines.

Utility Supervisor Stacy Cranford will also present information on a water main expansion project, which the council may take action on.
