San Augustine County Commissioners accept retirement letter from extension agent Nickerson

San Augustine County Extension Agent Jerry Nickerson to retire this month after 18-years on the job in the county.

At their meeting Tuesday the San Augustine County Commissioners’ Court accepted the retirement of long-time county extension agent Jerry Nickerson. County Judge Samye Johnson said it was with a ‘sad heart’ to have Nickerson leave the position in San Augustine County after 18 years. He’s been a Texas AgriLife Extension agent for 30+ years. Judge Johnson did not say who would be replacing Nickerson, but said he deserved to enjoy his retirement.

She advised commissioners gave approval to having the AgriLife family and consumer science agents’ position returned after it was eliminated by a previous judge. Judge Johnson said that agent has been needed for some time to implement beneficial programs to county citizens.

In other business, San Augustine County Commissioners extended the county depository with Shelby Savings Bank; amended the budget and transfer funds for Pct. 3 to purchase road equipment; tabled action on road reporting and tracking service; agreed on repairs by Cabot Oil on CR202 and to seek in-kind donations for post for several signs to be placed along Hwy. 21 border-to-border designating the El Camino National Historic Trail.

Judge Johnson said no action was taken on F&B Auto’s request to be placed on the sheriff’s department wrecker rotation list after the court found out the sheriff’s department did not have such list.

Judge Johnson said Tuesday’s meeting ended with a balloon release by CPS, CASA, the Children’s Advocacy Board and the commissioners’ court for observance of Child Abuse Prevention Month.
